Alumnae 4ME Retreat

April 30, 2022

Oh boy, do we have a fun story to share with you! On April 30th, the Girl Scout of Citrus Alumnae hosted a fantastic one-day event at the Mah-Kah-Wee Program Center. After being cooped up for two long years, approximately 40 members of our alumnae group got to enjoy a day full of fun and fellowship. Who wouldn’t love a day full of axe throwing, archery, painting, beaded bracelets, shrinky-dinks, games, kayaking, and canoeing? It was an absolute blast!

And, of course,  the highly anticipated Goosechase online scavenger hunt was the icing on the cake! Our alumnae got to show off their skills, talent, creativity, and just plain silliness by completing ridiculous missions. They definitely didn’t disappoint! Below are some examples of the fun that was had.

Twister Airboat Ride at Lone Cabbage Fish Camp!

March 26, 2022

What’s better than spending a beautiful day at the end of March with friends, surrounded by wildlife and adventure? That’s exactly what members of an alumnae group did when they gathered at Lone Cabbage Fish Camp in Brevard County for an airboat ride on the St. John’s River. And guess what? This was the second time they’ve done it in recent months, and they loved every minute of it!

As they set off on their journey, it was close to alligator mating season, which meant that alligator sightings were aplenty. But that wasn’t all they saw – cows, roseate spoonbills, anhingas, and cormorants were also out and about, showing off their stunning beauty. The group had a blast taking pictures and enjoying the moment’s excitement.

After the ride, they indulged in a delicious lunch at Lone Cabbage’s patio, where they soaked in the sun, enjoyed the warm weather, and caught up with old and new friends alike. They’re already planning their next adventure and hope more people can join them the next time they schedule this activity. Don’t miss out on the fun – join in on the excitement!

Wreaths Across America

December 18, 2021

On December 18th, members of the GSC Alumnae group had the honor and privilege of participating in the Wreaths Across America program at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery near Mims, Florida. It was a humbling and inspiring experience as hundreds of volunteers gathered to remember and honor our veterans by laying Remembrance Wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes.

Semi-trailers carrying the wreaths pulled into the grounds, and volunteers helped unload. Others would take the wreaths and place one on each grave site, as the soldier’s name was said out loud at the time of placing. It was heartwarming to see so many people from different walks of life come together to recognize the sacrifice of our brave soldiers.

One of our members had the opportunity to help a young man learn what the markings on the stones stood for – furthering his understanding of the uniqueness of this cemetery. Another member heard two different families tell stories about their recently deceased soldier, making the experience of laying wreaths more personal.

Afterward, a few members from the group went for lunch together and shared what this experience meant to each that participated. We encourage more alumnae members to take advantage of this opportunity next year.

This same activity is done for Memorial Day when flags are placed at each grave site. We plan to join the GSC Alumnae in 2022 for “Flags In” for Memorial Day or “Wreaths Across America” for the Holidays. Join us as we pay tribute to our brave soldiers and show our gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

A Holly Jolly Holiday Success

December 11, 2021

The Holly Jolly Holiday event was an absolute blast! Our Girl Scout Alumnae sisters gathered together for an evening of laughter, creativity, and reconnecting. The Riverpoint Lodge provided the perfect setting, and we even had a special visit from Mrs. Claus (a.k.a. Ranger Rose)!

Everyone came dressed in their “Best Holiday Attire,” and we had a blast awarding prizes for the Best Sweater, Best Hat, and Best Combination of both. Congrats to Suzi Harris, Sherry McMaster, and Karen Wald on their wins!

One of the highlights of the evening was decorating cookies. The long kitchen table was covered with icings and sprinkles, and the creations were simply amazing. Alumnae members made everything from trees and wreaths to menorahs and other fancy designs, and special bags were provided so everyone could take their creations home.

We played games, sang songs, and spent the evening talking and laughing. The time flew by way too fast, and no one wanted to leave. We unanimously agreed that we need to do it again next year and that those who missed out should plan on joining us for this or another event in 2022. Cheers to a holly jolly holiday success!

Having a Blast at the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp!

October 9, 2021

Get ready to hear about an exhilarating adventure! Twenty fearless members of the GSC Alumnae team hopped on two airboats and set off with Twister Airboat Rides. With the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces, our boats zipped through the grassy marsh of the Saint Johns River and Lake Poinsett at speeds of up to 45 mph! As we flew through the water, our boat captains kindly slowed down to let us catch a glimpse of the incredible wildlife and picturesque natural cypress swamp. We couldn’t help but snap photos of everything we saw and enjoy the breathtaking views.

But the fun didn’t stop there! After our exciting Airboat Ride, we headed over to the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp restaurant for lunch. And guess what? Four more alumnae members joined us for an absolute feast! The Fish Camp had everything we could have wished for and more. The food was so delicious, there was something for everyone. And to top it off, they had live entertainment! We all sang along and had a good laugh. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day!

Bioluminescence Rafting Tour

September 11, 2021

Bioluminescence Rafting or Kayaking is an experience that outdoor adventurers must add to their bucket list. This natural phenomenon can only be witnessed at five locations on the planet. The Titusville/Cocoa Beach area is the sole location in the continental United States where this bioluminescence can be viewed year after year at the same spot.

Recently, nine members of the GSC Alumnae had the opportunity to enjoy a Bioluminescence Rafting adventure. We launched from Kiwanis Island in Merritt Island just before sunset. As darkness enveloped the sky, the water came to life with a magical glow illuminating everything it touched – our hands, paddles, kayaks, fish swimming, mullet jumping, and even the gentle waves. If one scoops water in their hand, it sparkles as they hold it and let it run down their arm. This phenomenon is made possible by naturally occurring dinoflagellate plankton that light up the river’s water. It’s a truly spectacular experience, much like watching fireworks underwater.

GSC Alumnae Members Helped Council Shop for Big Move

August 2, 2021

Did you hear about the Girl Scout Shop in Orlando? They had to make way for the Women’s History & Cultural Center’s construction and temporarily relocate to the Pine Castle Scout House. But, the real story here is the fantastic team of six ladies who volunteered to pack and transport all the clothes, books, patches, and the back-room inventory.

These ladies were like Wonder Woman! They finished the job in just two and a half hours, half the estimated time. It was like they had come together and unlocked super-secret superhero powers! One person taped boxes like a pro, another filled them at lightning speed, while someone else unzipped Ziplock bags like a ninja so that the badges could be filled. Clothes were packed into boxes by one and then moved by another with ease. Then, one person passed boxes out of storage, while another consolidated them like a champ. It was logistics perfection!

Then, these ladies were called for help again when the shop was moved back to the Council Service Center. This time, they were even more experienced; four of them boxed up at Pine Castle for the return. You won’t believe it, but they also finished this task in half the time! Who knew packing and moving could be so fun and surprising?

A New Bag Stuffing Record

500 bags in 35 minutes!!

May 15, 2021

Wow! What an amazing team effort! Despite the challenge of the items for the bags arriving late, we managed to pull off an impressive feat that we can all be proud of.

Our team of Alumnae, Staff, Members of the Board of Directors, parents, and two Scouts worked together like a well-oiled machine on an efficient assembly line. We set up a dual-line where each person added one or two items to the bag and passed it down the line, which was then closed and put into a box.

With our competitive spirits fired up, we completed the required 500 bags in just 35 minutes, setting a new record! We transported them to the event site just before the Cookie Dance Party began. But we didn’t stop there. We assembled an additional 900 bags, setting yet another record of 1400 bags in just two hours!

We are incredibly thankful to everyone who helped out. This, indeed, was a group effort, and we couldn’t have done it without every one of you. We are so proud to be a part of such an amazing team of individuals willing to work together to achieve great things.

So, let’s give ourselves a pat on the back and celebrate this achievement. We did it! GSC Alumnae for the win!

Pickles and Twinkies Alumnae Lunch

March 20, 2021

After the MKW work was done on March 20th, the Alumnae members enjoyed a unique, fun picnic lunch. Everyone brought a wrapped item. One of each item was put in “lunch bags” and distributed. No one knew what the menu would be because each person had brought only one item and there was purposefully no prior coordination.

Surprise and laughs were a large part of the lunch. Our feast included: Twinkies and pickles (of course), M&Ms, cheese, crackers, goldfish, tangerines, oranges, snickers, peanut butter, carrots, hummus, Easter peeps, nuts etc. An added bonus, was birthday cupcakes with chocolate “50” medallions for Ranger Rose’s birthday.

Every day at camp is a fun day. But some are even more fun than others. This was an “even more fun” day. We missed having you there.

GSC Alumnae Quarantine Craziness

A GooseChase Scavenger Hunt

August 3, 2020

Congratulation to the Missawackos for winning 1st place in the GooseChase scavenger hunt. A close 2nd place was the Trailblazer team and in 3rd place was Tiff H. We had eight teams participate in this fun adventure.

What is a GooseChase Adventure? It’s a scavenger hunt combined with smartphone technology to create one of the most exciting activities out there. Participants downloaded the GooseChase app then had one week to complete the missions listed.

Some of the missions were:

A Star is Born – Grab your family and re-enact a scene from your favorite movie

All Masked Up – Take a selfie with you in your favorite mask

Wheelbarrow – Find a wheelbarrow and give a teammate a lift

Full of Air – Attach 10 or more fully filled balloons to a team member and take a picture

Yarrr Pirates – Construct and wear a pirate hat made of newspaper

and lots more . . .

The missions were fun, and the teams were very creative. Check out the photos! Creativity gave teams extra points, so being creative was the key to the challenge.

Bunco

March 7, 2020

When the alumnae host bunco it’s more than just a game, it’s an afternoon of fun, food and laughter.  On Saturday, March 7th, fifteen alumnae members got together for an afternoon of Bunco at Celia Lane.  Many of the bunco players shared memories of them having troops and overnights at Celia Lane which brought back, “so many great memories”.

There were prizes for most buncos, high game, low game, and travel.  The BIG bunco winner of the day was …”Lucky”, as we like to call her, (it was her camp name too).  Lucky had 6 Buncos!  We learned that she is truly a lucky woman.  Her family said, “She wins at EVERYTHING”.

Many of the 15 participants were first time players.  There was awesome food to enjoy; meatballs, BBQ pork sandwiches, cheese platters, and Thanks-A-Lot bark . . . yummy.  It truly was an awesome Saturday afternoon with Girl Scout Sisters.

Alumnae Riverpoint Work-Fun Day/Weekend

February 20, 2021

It was a beautiful weekend at Riverpoint for the Alumnae Work-Fun Day/Weekend.  Twenty-four participants; alumnae members, their friends and family attended, with 16 members spending the night, some coming and going on different nights.  Participants were from Citrus Council, other parts of Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.  From 18 to 74 years old, everyone worked together and had a fun time.

Work projects completed:  Dig the drainage ditch, cut pepper trees, clean the boat house, cut vines, trim bushes, pull vining cactus from trees, paint the RP sign, clear the nature trail, weed the aloe bed, remove debris washed up on shore, sweep the tree house and emergency stairs, organize/clean book shelves, kitchen counters and pantry, etc., etc., etc.  It is amazing what 24 people can do in three hours.  As soon as one job was completed, those people started on another.  At least seven jobs were being done simultaneously.

Since Alumnae events are never all work, the work was followed by a great lunch then a fun afternoon.  The Corn Hole competition was unlike any other, with fun rules being created and evolving all afternoon.  The Champions were Beth Romans and Connie Tessmer – neither of whom are from Citrus Council, but who drove long distances to support our project.

A big THANK YOU to all who participated in making a huge difference in the appearance and long-term maintenance of Riverpoint Program Center.

GSC Alumnae members “Learn to Use a Cricut” at JoAnn Fabrics

January 19, 2020

On January 19, 2020, eleven GSC Alumnae members went to JoAnn Fabrics at 924 West State Road 436, Altamonte Springs, FL for a beginner’s class in “How to Use a Cricut Machine”.  The instructors, Sandy and Carol, were very patient and did a great job of teaching.  Four ladies owned a Cricut, but two had never used theirs before.  The primary project was an alumnae T-shirt that read “Once a Girl Scout, Always a Girl Scout”, with each participant designing her own letter style and color, as well as picking the color of the T-shirt.  They also learned other uses of the Cricut.  While working everyone shared stories of Girl Scouting and had a great time.  All are looking forward to a follow-up class and invite others to join in the fun.

Thank you to all you came out!  Be sure to come join us for our next adventure.

Citrus Alumnae Support Cookie Mega Drop

January 11, 2020

On Saturday, January 11, Girl Scouts of Citrus volunteers distributed over 87,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies to 800+ troops, all in one day, at one location.  It was a logistical masterpiece to watch.  Average wait time was less than 5 minutes from check in to loading bay.  Over 30 GSC Alumnae Members volunteered to support this event.  There were 18 distribution bays and GSC Alumnae members staffed one of the bays.  Other Alumnae members worked in other locations; checking troops in & out, directing traffic, cooking hamburgers and hotdogs and helping out in other bays where needed.

The Alumnae Bay statistics are impressive:

Number of Cases = 7,047

Number of Individual Orders = 63

Largest Order = 882 cases (The FIRST one of the day)

Smallest Order = 7

Fitbit step count of a volunteer who was there all day = 21,500 steps

PLAN TO JOIN US NEXT YEAR.  ALUMNAE ALWAYS HAVE FUN!!!

GSC Sweet Memories – A Chocolate Experience

November 20, 2019

On November 20th the GSC Alumnae gathered at Farris and Foster’s Chocolate event for a great night out with their Girl Scout friends while creating chocolate confections in milk, dark, and white chocolate.  They melted chocolate and pour it into different shaped molds, making mouthwatering truffles.  What a unique way to the spend your evening the company of your GS friends as you indulge your chocolate cravings.  Fifteen alumnae members participated creating delightful chocolates, having great conversations, great laughs, and memories for a lifetime.  At the end of the night, everyone took home a pound of chocolate treats.

Sleuth Mystery Dinner Show

July 13, 2019

On July 13th, several members of the GSC Alumnae stepped into the world of comedy, mystery and intrigue at Sleuths Mystery Dinner Shows. As they mingle with unusual characters…a crime had taken place! The action was fast and the laughter is contagious as they became the detective and solved the crime through a live interrogation!

While enjoying the show and solving the crime, the alumnae enjoyed appetizers, salad, a choice of a delicious dinner of either, Cornish Hen, Cheese Lasagna or Prime Rib and had unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks. The GSC Alumnae members had an amazing night full of laughter and fun, enjoying each other’s company while meeting new friends.

Thank you to all you came out!  Be sure to come join us for our next adventure.

Bunco Event

June 8, 2019

Wow! Just Wow!! It’s hard to explain how great it was to get together on a Saturday afternoon to play a dice game. Fellow Alumnae joined from all over Citrus Council, from Poinciana to St. Cloud, Longwood, Kissimmee, Palm Bay, and many other areas came together for the Bunco Event at Pine Castle Scout House.

This event went over so well that we had first-time bunco players, first-time leaders, and first-time Alumnae rolling dice for the prizes. If you don’t know how to play bunco . . . No Problem. (we had many new players!) With all kidding aside, this is a game you can learn quickly, with no experience necessary.

Please stay tuned for the next Bunco event . . . You don’t want to miss it!

Celebrating Women’s Fashion, Bringing History to Life

May 4, 2019

On May 4th GSC alumnae members and their guest were enthralled as they listened to stories of the evolving woman and how wedding dresses from the civil war era to today, gave us a glimpse into that journey. Girl Scouts of Citrus Alumnae hosted this very moving event presented by Leigh Anne Brown, a Florida native, who has 374 wedding dresses in her collection. With 15 of her dresses the audience explored women’s lives during war time, the industrial revolution, the roaring 20’s, the great depression and the recession.

Through wedding dresses and personal accounts, we took a journey through time. We learned how women became empowered and free to live their own lives. Each dress represented a different decade and style. From wearing 9 undergarment layers in 1882, to fabric choices of silks, linen, and synthetic fabric, characterized life during those times.

On display was a gown that was created from a parachute in 1945. The groom-to-be was a D-Day paratrooper who saved his parachute for his bride-to-be as a reminder of the love they shared. No ring necessary.

Another gown was from a family with the oldest of two daughters getting married and a father who would only buy one gown for them to share. The older sister dreamed of a sleek, stylish gown, but her teenage sister picked out and insisted on the “frou-frou” gown.  The oldest daughter acquiesced, after all, it was only one day.  Four years later her sister eloped and never wore the dress!

Alumnae members and their guest enjoyed a delicious lunch, raffle and door prizes and the opportunity to get a close-up look at all the beautiful gowns on display.

St Johns Rivership Cruise and Lake Mary Museum

March 9, 2019

Several GSC Alumnae, along with family and friends, set sail on the Rivership Barbara-Lee to cruise along the St. Johns River. The Barbara-Lee is a family owned and operated lunch/dinner cruise located in Sanford, FL. A total of twenty-eight people attending this event had excellent food choices from Prime Rib, Tropical Chicken, and Salmon.  Oh, and the famous Rivership Sticky Buns were yummy! It could not have been a more perfect day for fellow members of the Alumnae to join together for a day of comedy, music, scenery, and excellent food. If you missed this sailing don’t fret, be on the look-out for the next date.

The group also visited the Scouting in America Exhibit at the Lake Mary Museum. It was amazing to see all of the different Girl Scout uniforms, badges, and workbooks the girls used throughout the years. And, interesting to see the changes and to hear fellow Alumnae talk about how they wore that uniform or earned a certain badge. It was great to have a history lesson and special to see the items right there in front of you. We would also like to send a big “THANK YOU” to the Lake Mary Museum and the Girl Scouts of Citrus Archive Team for organizing such an impressive exhibit.

Riverpoint Work-Play Recap – hosted by Citrus Gold

February 9, 2019

WOW!! What a weekend!!  If you missed it, you missed a highlight of the Alumnae year!!

The weather held from 9:00-11:30 for the work to get done.  A team put together 5 picnic tables which was the primary objective.  In addition 4 new to Scouting ladies, with a Citrus Alumnae from Georgia who came for the weekend, did a great job of  clipping, cropping, cutting, lopping and trimming the nature trail.  Painting jobs included: spigot posts, hose arms, and a swing seat; porch trim that is being replaced; primer on the porch edges.  Meanwhile a crew was doing “bend over-pick up-load trailer” from the debris of 15 palm trees that the Wednesday Workday crew had pruned during in the week.  Five trailers of debris were taken away.

Even if the rain had not come early to stop our progress, there is always MORE to do to improve our camp. Staff members, Lydia Sealy and Susie Marsh, joined us and MaryAnn Barry, the CEO, stopped in to thank the Alumnae for their support in upgrading our camp.

The Tibetan Singing Bowl Relaxation Therapy was phenomenal!!!  The tones reverberating off the walls of the 125+ year old lodge relaxed the body and soothed the soul.  From then on it was play, sing, laugh… repeat—play, sing, laugh.  We thank Citrus Gold for hosting a great event and look forward to a repeat next year.

Paint Party at Pine Castle Scout House

February 2, 2019

Several GSC Alumnae members participated in painting the fence at Pine Castle Scout House in February. It was a challenge with a lot of cutting-in and corners, so everyone who came was greatly appreciated. Good progress was made to the front entrance and a portion of one side, of the fence line.

The paint was running out, just as a few sprinkles started. Everyone cleaned up, took some pictures and called it a day.  Then, just like Florida, out came the sun!  It was a good day, good fellowship, and a fun project. There is still a lot more fence to paint, so watch for announcements of a follow-up date being planned.

Thank you to everyone who came to help with this project.  Also, thank you, Susie Marsh, Director of Property for treated everyone with a delicious lunch.

Alumnae Weekend Retreat

November 2 – 3, 2018

The 10th annual Alumnae Weekend Retreat, held the first weekend of November 2018 at Mah-Kah-Wee, was fun-filled and relaxing with a smorgasbord of activities. Friday evening was a hilarious time playing “Minute To Win It“ games and discovering some odd talents among the group.

On Saturday, Ranger Rose and Courtney revealed many hidden talents of alumnae while teaching basket-weaving and painting. Diana Huntress helped folks relax with Qi-Gong. Activity tables for drop-by crafts included rock painting, wine glass painting, and making holiday picture frame decorations and marbled paper. Trish Bergelt introduced the world of essential oils and at-home facials. Traditional camp activities included hiking, swimming, archery, kayaking and canoeing. Janina Kulzer led a service project of painting the staff house back porch and clearing weeds and overgrowth at the front of camp. At a beautiful campfire presented by Citrus Gold on Saturday evening included singing, an ash ceremony by Patti Goss and her daughter Alli, and of course… S’mores.

Our CEO, Maryann Barry, gave an update on recovery from the fire and hurricane, and camp rebuild plans. Susie Marsh, Ranger Rose and Lydia Sealey led tours of the West Side; everyone was excited to see the progress and regrowth.

Sunday morning’s Girl Scouts Own gave everyone the opportunity to reflect on their Girl Scout experience and be thankful for the many new first time attendees. It was a joy to share song and story by extending the ceremony to include the youngest and oldest Girl Scouts, Daisy GS and Senior GS.

Fabulous meals were provided by Phoebe Engle and her staff. They spoiled us with their culinary skills and traditional Snickerdoodles.

Overall, it was a delightful, relaxing, invigorating weekend of coming together, meeting new friends, and reuniting with old friends. Planning for next year has already begun, so watch the Alumnae website for the event announcement so you can “save the date”!

Savannah Bound

October 11 – 14, 2018

Fourteen members of GSC Alumnae traveled to Savannah, GA, October 11 – 14, 2018. They began their weekend with a tour of Downtown Savannah, learning not only Savannah History, but how our Founder, Juliette Low, and her family played a big part in that history.

During their amazing tour of the First Africans Baptist Church, they learned how area slaves paid for and built the church, and the part that it played in the Underground Railroad. They traveled to Tybee Island Marine Science Center that featured species native to Georgia’s coast, a few invaders, and exotics from other oceans, where they enjoyed a beach walk and trying to seine.

After a lunch at the pier, it was off to the lighthouse and 7 brave souls climbed to the top. And of course, they visited Girl Scout favorites – The First Headquarters, Laurel Grove Cemetery, and the Birthplace of Girl Scouts.  They were joined by 2 Cadette Girl Scouts from our council, who happened to be visiting the same day, for a Pinning Ceremony in the Courtyard of Juliette’s childhood home.

Everyone stuffed themselves with traditional southern cooking from local favorites – Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, Lady and Sons and The Pirate House.  All had a great time laughing, getting to know each other and making new friends.

Would you like to go to Savannah?  Our next trip is scheduled for October 3 – 6, 2019.  Visit the GSC Alumnae Travel page to register.

Juliette’s Tea at Riverpoint

September 16, 2018

What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon but to have a Tea Party, just like the ones Juliette had.  Wearing their beautiful and creative hats, 26 Alumnae members attended the Juliette’s Tea at Riverpoint on Sunday September 16th.   Alumnae members brought their teacup and shared their stories.  Some stories brought tears with fond memories and others laughter, like Martha’s rendition of facetime teacup pictures.  Other teacups were definitely antiques, while some were last minute purchases.  The tables were covered with white lace tablecloths, the chairs were adorned in white covers with blue ties to match the blue napkins.  Centerpieces were made with yellow and white daisies in past years’ candy tins.

Old friends got to see each other and reminisce over camp days at Riverpoint.  The dock is still gone from the hurricane, but Maryann reported that repairs are being scheduled. The lodge has had some major improvements (air conditioners and windows to mention a few). All and all it was a beautiful afternoon on the Banana River, sipping tea and laugh with Girl Scout friends.

Thank you to the Archive Team for the sandwiches, fruits, scones and tea and all their hard work planning this event.

Capone’s Dinner Theatre

April 21, 2018

The GSC Alumnae hosted an AWESOME event at Capone’s Dinner Theatre on April 21st.  Capone’s, is a gangster themed comedy dinner show, which will have you in stitches. Members of GSC Alumnae had front row seats which put Martha Spruitenburg and her husband Rik in all the action. The show was entertaining and hysterical, in an all-new show that delivered loads of laughs, gangster action, audience interaction and toe-tapping musical productions. The dinner show included an all-you-can-eat dinner buffet, dessert, and drinks.

Citrus Gold’s Work Hard, Then Play Day

February 16-18, 2018

The “Work Hard, Then Play Day” at Riverpoint, hosted by Citrus Gold Alumnae, was held February 16- 18, 2018.  The weekend included service projects, good food and fun activities. Twenty-three people attended.  During three hours of work on Saturday morning, much was accomplished – an overall cleaning of the lodge; debris removal from the waterfront including the oyster beds that were destroyed by Hurricane Irma; and the clearing of a major portion of the nature trail. Afterwards the group played and relaxed the rest of the weekend. The fun included a lesson in making monkey bread, crafts, brain exercises, a variety of games, relaxation, reflexology and so much more!!!

Good Friends + Beautiful Weather + Hard Work + Fun + Laughs + Great Food = PERFECT WEEKEND

Bahamas Bound!

January 5-8, 2018

The GSC Alumnae Second Annual Cruise was held January 5-8, 2018, with 46 members aboard Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas. From Friday evening through Monday morning, days and nights were filled with fun activities, spending time with old friends and making new friends. Highlights were a scavenger hunt, door decorating contest, games session and karaoke.

With our CEO, we greeted the captain of the ship and introduced him to Girl Scout Cookies. Many enjoyed a variety of Nassau excursions like pub crawl and sailing with snorkeling. The games session of “Doodle Dice” and “Left, Center, Right” had everyone laughing and cheering so much that people walking by had to see what was so exciting. For anyone unable to cruise with us this year, we look forward to seeing you on the 2019 Third Annual Alumnae Cruise!

Girl Scouts of Citrus Alumnae Tea Party

October 30, 2017

GSC Alumnae were joined by members of the Winter Park Antique Society for a lovely tea at the Council Service Center on October 30, 2017. The Tea Party was sponsored by the Archive Team who served 28 attendees with cucumber or egg salad sandwiches, homemade scones, and a variety of hot teas. Many stories about tea cups were shared, some from great grandparents to foreign collections. Girl Scout history was discussed and everyone was able to tour Juliette’s Place and view displays throughout the building.
